Included are World War I correspondence (1918-1919) commenting on army camp life in the United States and France, French civilian life, and the influenza epidemic in St. Paul (Minn.); correspondence (1919-1933) between Winkel and Max Rupprechter discussing the latter's activities as an army chaplain in Camp Grant, Illinois (1919-1920), his career as a Catholic priest in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and several trips he made to the Austrian Tyrol, with Winkel's comments on national affairs and his reactions to New Deal policies; historical notes gathered by Winkel on numerous St. Paul subjects, including architecture, monuments, parks, and sports; a manuscript by Winkel discussing theories on the authorship of William Shakespeare's writings; and several items (1913-1960) pertaining to the activities of the Junior Pioneer Association of Ramsey County.
